Patrick’s AE86 Build

Spread the love

Well I introduced myself last time so this time? An introduction to my very own AE86. As I had spoken about previously, Chris “Mr. AE86World” Gray has been a friend for many years and his influence, good or bad, has led me to buying my very own Hachi Roku.

Since coming to the US I hadn’t purchased a car I wanted (The Daewoo doesn’t count, or at least that’s what I tell myself). I had began trolling Craigslist and so on to find basically a shell which would preferably be a hatch. As time went on it was obvious that at least locally pickings where going to be slim.

I jumped on Facebook and went to the Club4AG page and threw up a post asking for a project Corolla that was a rolling shell. Now I was waiting for either no replies or people trying to sell me their SR5 for 6k haha. Luckily for me though the first car posted was a white rolling shell SR5 with a knockoff bodykit on it.

The AE86 and it’s chum – my little daily 500 (secretly love this car too)

So I broke that cardinal rule of buying a car “Don’t buy the first one you see!” – technically I didn’t really “see it” as the seller and I just made the deal over Facebook and I wired the money – in hindsight probably not the wisest thing to do but heck I am trying to build a race car from the ground up – not exactly a wise thing to do! I had the car shipped from San Francisco to Las Vegas and I was SUPER excited to get home and see my purchase! Now I went and done my typical stunt: Buy car, look at car, let car sit for X amount of months! I did this when I bought my 306 Dimma in Ireland back in 2011/12 but I had a genuine reason for holding back.

So then I decided I wanted to document the build on YouTube which you can view the first episode above and subsequent episodes below!

So this is where we are at currently…

I hope to give an update soonish as to what’s going on with the car but rest assured… THIS. CAR. WILL. BE. BUILT!
